Motorcycles

Fun Fact

Motorcycles, the vehicle of thrill seekers! How were they invented? By accident of course!

Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach were trying to build a car fit for individual use in 1885. They had equipped it with 4 wheels and were trying to make it powerful enough to compete with the steam powered vehicles on the market. Daimler and Maybach did this by creating what they called a “grandfather clock” engine. This
engine was one of the first petroleum motor engines and was said to be one of lightest and more efficient!

They called their creation the Daimler Reitwagen. This 4 wheeled motorcycle was the first of its kind and was in a way a test for Daimler to see how this engine they had created worked. Daimler is often referred to as being the father of the motorcycle! Unfortunately, the Daimler Reitwagen was involved in a fire and was completely destroyed.

It all started with the goal to design a smaller and lighter engine which coincidentally ended with a gift to thrill-seekers worldwide: the motorcycle.
